In this paper, the authors use statistical data exploration techniques to study the ENSO impact on regional vegetation variations. The parametric and nonparametric correlation analysis with hypothesis test and confidence interval, bootstrap and Monte Carlo simulation, and Principal Component Analysis method is used to analyze the variation of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and its relations with Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) and Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly over the Ni˜no 3 region (Nino 3 SSTA). For certain patterns of NDVI, although the correlations between NDVI signals and the ENSO signals are not strong, the correlations are statistically significant.
