The impregnation of chitosan gel beads with Cyanex 302 allows the sorption of Cd(Ⅱ) to be improved: it increases sorption capacity but also makes the sorbent less sensitive to the pH. With chitosan beads impregnated by the wet impregnation process (WIP), sorption capacity is enhanced at pH 7 but the sorption kinetics is faster at pH 3. Several other impregnation processes have been investigated for the impregnation of the beads, alternatively to the WIP, including the dry impregnation process (DIP). The WIP is the most efficient process especially when the beads are dried before impregnation.
