The NASA Glenn Research Center Acoustical Testing Laboratory has produced ANIMATEDAuditory Demonstrations II: Challenges in Speech Communication and Music Listening, acollection of animated video versions of selected audio tracks from the audio CD by the samename. These demonstrations illustrate the impact of acoustical conditions and hearing loss oneveryday listening situations, including the enjoyment of various styles of music. Thispresentation will illustrate how these demonstrations may be effectively used by noise controlprofessionals to strengthen advocacy and educational presentations.Each audio track is accompanied by a visual display that provides entertaining contextualbackground imagery as well as a time-dependent display of spectra and associated single-numbermetrics that illustrate concepts such as hearing thresholds associated with cumulative noiseexposure over time, background noise NC levels, wall partition STC ratings, reverberation timesequences, and labeled NRR values of hearing protectors. These visual roadmaps help thelistener identify subtle changes in the audio signal while viewing numerical metrics that quantifychanging technical parameters.The videos may be run using Windows Media® Player on the Windows® platform orQuickTime® on the Macintosh® platform or may be incorporated into PowerPoint®presentations.
