This paper reviews different methods of assessing occupational noise exposure for individualsusing headsets or headphones in the workplace. Standardized methods to measure sound levelsdirectly under the device include the use of acoustic manikins, artificial ears and real-earprocedures. An alternative calculation method is proposed that includes other determinants ofexposure, such as the background noise around the worker and the attenuation of the device, asinput parameters in the assessment. This method has the advantage that it facilitates theimplementation of solutions or treatments to reduce exposure.
