The establishment of Chinese Brassica Oilseed Base Collection have provided a very good source for screening of new elite germplasm. To efficiently screen and evaluate rapeseed germplasm, a pre-core collection of Chinese rapeseed genetic resources has developed based on the assessment of genetic diversity in the base collection, a core collection will be set up soon. The germplasm from pre-core collection has been evaluated for aphids resistance and phosphate fertilizer efficiency. Several mutants with potential value have been found in the collection. RAPD have been used to develop the molecular markers for the important traits, eg. apetalous and Sclerotinia rot resistance. New evidences was also obtained to support the hypothesis that Xinjiang wild rape might be the ancestor of Chinese mustard (B. juncea).
