In this paper, the analysis results of theswitching surge in substation included gas insulatedswitchgear by using the electromagnetic transientprogram has been described. After performing themodeling of the input data, we have calculated theenergizing and re-energizing overvoltage of gas circuitbreaker without closing resistor of circuit breaker in345kV network between Sanchung and Ueryoung,according to closing time of simultaneously operatingswitch. Then we statistically calculated the energizingovervoltage. From these results, it could be knownthat the phase-to-earth energizing overvoltagesbetween Sanchung and Ueryoung are less than 2.2 p.uwhen closing resistor of circuit breaker is eliminated.Therefore, it was possible to eliminate the closingresistor of circuit breaker in Sanchung power plant.
