Hybrid ventilation through natural smoke extraction combined with mechanical air supply in an atrium fire was proposed.It aimed to have the smoke being exhausted out of the roof opening,meanwhile to keep the upper smoke layer at a certain height to prevent it from de- scending to the ground so as to provide sufficient time for people evacuation.An experi- mental model test reproduced as l/10 0f the full-scale prototype and large eddy simulations used FDS software were performed.The results agreed well with each other.This paper proved the feasibility of the idea of hybrid ventilation.Analysis sensitivities were further made to obtain how factors do a difference on smoke control in an atrium.
