摘要

The capacity of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF I) loaded microspheres (MS) to induce bone formation in critical size defects has been evaluated. Defects of 15 mm length are bridged as early as within 8 weeks. These results are corroborated by a mRNA quantification of various pro- and inflammatory markers by realtime polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) suggesting a possible mechanism of action of IGF I.
