A multiple-unit oral floating microsphere system was prepared to prolong the gastric emptying time of a model drug (diclofenac). The system was composed of hollow structure microspheres having density lower than one prepared from ethylcellulose. Microspheres were prepared using emulsification-solvent evaporation method. The floating behavior drug loading and drug release pattern from microspheres was studied. More than 80% of the prepared microspheres had a floating time of more than 24 hours in vitro.
