Analysis of the Current State and Prospects for Alternative Energy in the Northern Regions (Russia)

Alternative energy is part of an energy producing system that uses renewable energy sources. Approximately 1% of the electricity in the world today is produced by solar power and slightly more than 2% by windmills. Use of installed capacity of solar and wind energy is being doubled every four years. In Europe trend of the new energy industry is already downward. China plans to actually produce “green” energy in the amount of 250 gigawatts by year 2040. In the US there are plans to receive 5-6.4% of electricity from solar radiation by the year 2040. In Russia alternative energy sector will also grow, but not so quickly due to the rich underground resources that allows long and efficient use of traditional energy sources.
