The article presents the results of studies that allowed us to establish that in order to ensure stable operation of the multiple insert tools on CNC machines in a given time interval, it is necessary to control the cutting properties of replaceable multi-sided carbide inserts. The paper suggests a method for determining the cutting properties of the carbide multiple insert tools and the physical and mechanical properties of the material using of the thermal EMF value generated by a natural thermocouple, composed of the tool material and the material to be processed. The physical validation of the thermal EMF signal analog-to-digital conversion use for the state of carbide inserts evaluation in the set of built-up tool is given. Fast-flowing contact processes in the intermittent cutting conditions are analyzed. A relationship between the thermal EMF value of the trial run and the energy coefficient in the permissible cutting speed formula is established. Experimental research on intelligent production machine showed the effectiveness of the suggested method.
