Nitrogen nutrition efficiencies including nitrogen utilization efficiency (NUE) and nitrogen absorption efficiency (NAE) of. 88 rice germplasms were measured and compared under low, medium and high N levels. The results showed that NUE of rice seedling increased and NAE of rice seedling decreased with the increase of N application rates. Nitrogen nutrition efficiencies of rice seedling were markedly different among rice germplasms and the differences changed with nitrogen levels. NUE of upland rice was significantly higher and NAE of upland rice was significantly smaller than that of paddy rice under the low N, NAE of upland rice was more significantly smaller than that of paddy rice under the high N. NUE of ancient local variety was significantly higher and NAE of ancient local variety was significantly smaller than that of contemporary breeding variety under the low N, NUE of ancient local variety was more significantly higher and NAE of ancient local variety was significantly smaller than that of contemporary variety under the medium N, and NUE of ancient local variety was more significantly higher and NAE of ancient local variety was more significantly smaller than that of contemporary variety under the high N. Both NUE and NAE of hybrid rice were significantly higher than that of conventional rice under the low N, NUE of hybrid rice was significantly higher than that of conventional rice. NUE of Indica rice was significantly higher than that of Japonica rice under the medium N and high N.
