Optical Elements for LCOS Projectors

Several optical elements that are needed in making LCOS projectors are examined. They include the wire-grid polarizer (WGP), the polarization interference filter (PIF) and a wideband large NA waveplates (WP). We show that very high extinction ratios can be achieved with WGP. Moreover the extinction ratio can be good in both transmission and reflection. We also show a design method for PIF and large NA waveplates. In particular, we wide band WP including quarterwave and halfwave plates can be achieved by laminating a small number of ordinary commercial retardation films.
