The significant progress in sensing and dataprocessing technology has made monitoring anddamage detection of engineering structuresincreasingly attractive. This paper presents areliable in-situ damage detection technique,which is based upon dynamic analysis of acomposite structure using a bonded piezoceramicpatches as an actuators and a ScanningLaser Doppler Vibrometer as a sensor. Inaddition Neural Networks have been consideredto be a viable tool for handling the largenumber of data. A multilayer perceptron (MLP)neural networks, was trained and tested usingthe slope, the y-intercept of the linear fit of theroot mean square of the Frequency ResponseFunction (FRF_(rms)) and the Deviation of theFRF_(rms) of a candidate composite structure.
