Mobile Edge Computing is one of the defining technology for envisioning Internet of Things. It encompasses a broad scope of development. It essentially implies computational speed and processing at the edge of the network and there are obvious advantages to this. Many challenges faced by the expansion of Cloud networks can be solved by providing connectivity at the edge of the network. It improves network performance and reduces latency. As of today, there is still no common agreed upon architecture presented for Internet of Things. Many developments are on the way. A broad layered architecture utilizing Edge computing, namely MEC-framework addresses the key requirements for this system-to-be. This paper revolves around the applications of Internet of Things. It then explains the challenges faced in implementing such a system. It explains how MEC-Framework can essentially answer most of these challenges. The paper concludes by providing application areas where this technology can be significant.
