Use of By-Products Gases from Industrial Processes as Alternate Fuels in Conventional Fossil Power Plants

Numerous industrial processes generate low energy content effluents as by products. Typical examples of such fluids are effluent gases generated by steel making (blast furnace, direct reduction, etc.) and petrochemical processes, black liquor generated by pulp and paper factories, etc. This paper focuses on by product gases from steel making processes. Such gases are usually not suitable for applications requiring long term storage and/or transport. However, further use of their energy content increases the global efficiency of the main process, and has a positive effect on the environment.
