Solvay Enlarged Offer for High Voltage Li-Ion Batteries

Achieving high energy at an affordable cost and without compromising safety is the Holy Grail of Li-ion, and of the whole battery industry. Solvay has increased its efforts to propose innovating Electrolyte ingredients to the battery makers to develop High Voltage solutions. Solvay acquired Energain™ technology to enhance its product offer structured around four technological pillars: Salts, Additives, Ionic Liquids and Formulations. Energain~(TM) technology is a new generation of Fluorinated solvents and formulations using advanced cathode materials to achieve up to 5V. Besides our existing industrial product range, consisting among others of LiTFSI, F1EC and TAB, Solvay is scaling up processes to industrialize other materials, such as LiFSI, LiTA (Lithium Triflate), F2EC, ionic liquids based on TFSI anion and a series of fluoro-additives shown to have excellent results in high Voltage Systems. LiTFSI is a salt commonly used as an additive to increase life-cycle and performances of Li-ion batteries and is the main conductive salt for LMP batteries and, in the future, for LiS batteries. F1EC allows for a stabilized SEI in Li-ion liquid electrolyte batteries, bringing improved safety and cycle-life. LiFSI is a promising salt for improved performances in Li-ion batteries (both low and high voltage) and LiTA is a salt that, besides its use in primary Li batteries, will be a main constituent of LiS batteries. High purity F2EC is a new additive having very good performances with Si-C and Si anodes. We have developed several new proprietary additives which show excellent results in some specific high voltage systems.
