Active Artifacts: for New Embodiment Relation between Human and Artifacts

The active artifact provides new embodiment relation between human and artifacts. In the active artifact paradigm, an artifact perform its task by itself. In this paper we argue the implicit embodiment communication between active artifact and human and propose an architecture to realize such communication. In order to perform such communication, we introduce a concept of affordance distance. We employ utility function in order to express the affordance distance. We have built an autonomous mobile chair as an example of active artifacts. In order to show the validity of our proposed approach, experiments have been carried in the computer simulation.
