This paper presents a case study of a vibrationseparator system with vertical sieve surfaces. Under excitation by an unbalance force from an eccentric axle, the system displays multi-frequency vibrations. The analysis here considers a two-dimensional approximation; however, the model is allowed to be fully nonlinear and time-varying. The cubic and quadratic nonlinearities of the system arise as a result of interactions between the coordinates of the motion. It is demonstrated that a 2:1 internal resonance can be obtained under appropriate circumstances. One of the aims of the paper is to demonstrate the use of the wavelet transformfor the visualisation of nonlinear nonstationary system response.
