Towards a service-oriented development methodology

Leveraging service-oriented paradigm wouldrnsignificantly affect the way people build softwarernsystems. However, to achieve this ambitious vision arnsolid software development methodology should be inplace,rncomprising specific, service-context patterns asrnwell as appropriate supporting tools which altogetherrnintegrate methods and best practices into a stablerndevelopment environment.rnThis paper presents a structured approach to analyzernsoftware development methodologies in the light of thernspecific features of service oriented applications. Thernproposed approach is based on a critical assessment ofrnexisting software development methodologies alongrnthree methodological dimensions, namely managing thernchange in software development, specifying thernsoftware development process and targeting thernstakeholders goals. For each of this dimension we firstrnidentified suitable software methodologies capable tornmeet the specific challenges and then discuss theirrncontribution towards the definition of a service-orientedrndevelopment methodology.
