Minimizing the Cost of SDM Optical Networks with Multi-Core and Single-Core Fibre Cables

Optical network with multi-core fibres and space divisionmultiplexing (SDM) is considered the most promisingtechnology to cope with the tremendous growth of Internettraffic and the constantly increasing demand for networkcapacity. With SDM technology, it will be possible inone fibre link to transmit multiple lightpaths that occupythe same wavelength by using different cores. In thispaper, an integer linear programming (ILP) formulation ispresented that minimizes the cost of such network.
