A completely new manufacturing paradigm is being set for the production of bus bodies.rnFilament winding allows component integration as the superstructure and the panels can be builtrnin one single operation. Also, the composite materials used allow weight reduction in addition torncorrosion and impact resistance. If the component is a sandwich structure, it is possible to obtainrnthe required strength and stiffness. Impact efficiency can be improved by correct selection ofrnmaterials. The design aims at replacing commonly used steel superstructure with a sandwichrnstructure comprising filament wound skins and a foam core. The chassis remains unchanged. Thernrear and front ends are still built in the classical steel frame approach.
