A two electrode Trigatron spark gap switch is used as the main discharge switch and triggered by a reliable trigger generator. In this article, a novel synchronization of four parallel spark gap switches with an accuracy of 5-10 ns for high-frequency pulsed power application is discussed. The circuit uses a combination of one master spark gap and set of inductor and capacitors to generate a fast trigger pulse to synchronize four spark gaps and can be controlled via an IGBT switch. Two trigger generator circuits are discussed, based on pulse shaping network and pulse transformer; comprises a parallel combination of capacitor and inductor. A spark gap switch in triggered mode and the self-triggered mode is used to switch the energy from capacitive source to inductive load. Results show nanosecond level of accuracy in synchronization is reported in this paper along with simulations and analysis.
