The aim of this study is to investigate the gold recovery from a finely disseminated silver ore by using thiourea as an alternative to cyanidation process. Laboratory and pilot scale tests were conducted on Gumushane-Mastra ore. The effect of thiourea nad oxidant type, pH, agitation time, grinding particle size on gold recovery by using thiourea leaching, was investigated. the thiourea leaching is found aot take place under the effect of pH, emf and diffusion control. At short-time leaching, at low pH and emf values, the consumption of thiourea and the amount of ixidant decreased while the leach yield became less Amount of oxidant and time of leaching increased up to certain level during thiourea leaching. Formation of elemental sulphur and the occurrence of desorption prevented the diffusion dissolution. So, high leaching rates were not obtained.
