A Control System Retrofit for an 80MW Steam Turbine GeneratorUnit – A DCS Solution

This paper describes the implementation of a distributed control system (DCS) on an 80MW steamrnturbine generator unit at PowerGen’s Port of Spain Plant. The text details the process from specificationrnof the system, through system design to implementation and operation of the system. The systemrnperforms the functions of burner management, boiler control, motor control and data acquisition. ThernDCS chosen works well and is well suited to perform the required functions.
