Effects of shading and foliar application of sucrose on photosynthesis of peach [Prunus percica (L. ) Batsh. cv. "Zhonghua Shoutao"] leaf was studied in fruit set and young fruit swelling stages and stone harding stage. Two-year-old potted peach trees were shaded with two levels of light intensity (50% and 30% of full light). Sucrose solution was sprayed on esperimental trees with three different concentration (0, 0. 5%, 1%). The results showed that shading increased chlorophyll a and b contents of peach leaf, decreased the ratio of chlorophyll a to b and decreased net photosynthesis rate significantly. Shading also made layers of palisade cell less, spongy tissue looser and porosity of spongy tissue higher. To a certain extent, foliar application of sucrose weakened the influence of shading on photosynthesis of leaf, strengthened the adaptive faculty of photosystem to weak light. The shaded trees that were sprayed sucrose had higher net photosynthesis rate than those without sucrose application. All those results showed that foliar application of sucrose was helpful for the photosynthesis of shaded peach leaf.
