E-Commerce is popular. We see it covered in the papers and TV newscasts. It is praised asrnthe future of commerce and feared as the end of human business relations. At the stock markets fortunes have been won and lost under the label of e-Commerce.rnWhat is e-Commerce? Why does it shake our world? If we define e-Commerce as the selling/buying of goods or services through means of telecommunication then it is anything but new. There have passed more than one hundred years of trading by using telephone and telegraph without creating such large an attention.rnObviously new technical means and changes in the society have enabled the proliferation of e-Commerce. This panel will look at the phenomenon e-Commerce from the SE point of view. Who are the stakeholders? How are they affected and what do they expect? What situation do e-Commerce systems need to be successful?rnHow does regulation affect e-Commerce and can it protect the users? Do all e-Commerce systems have the same architecture and how do current architectures reflect the stakeholders requirements? We try to give answers to these questions and to explain the sudden surge in popularity of e-Commerce, its causes, chances, and dangers.
