The partnership between man and cat goes way back thousands of years in history, having evolved through many stages in different cultures, from being a sacred animal to even a persecuted one. When a cat is deprived of its natural freedom it accepts life with man, but without ever losing some of its free animal privileges: it needs its own corner to satisfy the instinct to relieve itself and it is the owner's duty to provide for this. If it does not like the place chosen, it is able to leave it and, modifying its behaviour, foul other places. The population of domestic cats in Europe amounts to about 50m. The minimum needs for their maintenance and care in homes are very simple, consisting basically of food, water, fondness and an absorbent litter box where they may bury their faeces in an easy, hygienic way, following their natural instinct.
