Laser Doppler Vibrometry provides for highly accurate andrnversatile non-contact vibration transduction in applicationsrnwhere it is impossible or undesirable to mount a vibrationrntransducer onto a vibrating object. Typical applicationsrninclude vibration measurements on: rotating surfaces,rntargets submerged in water, light weight structures,rnremote targets and targets behind layers of glass. Use ofrnLaser Doppler Vibrometry in such applications requiresrnattention to a number of practical issues that are ofrnparamount importance for a successful result. This paperrnwill discuss these issues in detail and show how to dealrnwith them such that measurement accuracy, precision andrnreliability is maximized. Furthermore, practical single pointrnLaser Doppler Vibrometry applications will be used tornhighlight the theoretical discussions.
