A Prototype DSS for PCI Selection, Calculation, and Interpretation

Process capability indices (PCIs) have been developed in the literature for different situations encountered byrnindustry. However, several unresolved issues prevent industry from being able to achieve the full benefit from usingrnPCIs. This paper presents a prototype decision support system (PDSS) that resolves these issues. It selects,rncalculates, and interprets the appropriate PCI(s) based on minimum user input. It is programmed in Visual Basic 6.0rnas the front end and Excel 2002 as the back end, and has a user-friendly graphical interface, thus making it portablernand easy-to-use for industry.
