Can Humans Perceive Personality in Computer Agents?

Creating computer agents with personalities may enhance human-machine collaboration in complex systemsrnbecause the agent can provide the human operator input and communication in a way that works well with thernhuman’s personality. However, there is limited research related to the development of computer agents withrnpersonality. The purpose of this research was to investigate human perception of personality in computer games asrnpart of a research project investigating the development of computer agents with personality. Subjects were asked tornrate computer personalities in a Casino game and to describe the actions, language and/or behaviors that gave themrntheir impressions. The results indicated that subjects did perceive personality traits as described within the Big FivernFactor personality trait model.
