Activity within the brain cuases electrical potentials to exist on the scalp. The study of these potentials is generally referred to as electroencephalography (EEG). EEG is widely used in medical diagnosis and in biofeedback studies in which a person can learn to control some element of their EEG spectrum, usually in response to some visual stimulus.
