摘要

There is unquestionably an uneasy tension between the need for academically rigorous post-graduate degree programs and real-world hands-on experience. Companies worldwide are seeking employees who meet both criteria. In the particular area of industrial assembly and disassembly systems, the newness of the field coupled with a decline in mastery of the fundamentals of engineering by new graduates, makes it especially difficult to recruit personnel who can complete projects under budget and on-time. To counteract this growing lack of undergraduate preparation, Penn State Great Valley designed and implemented a new Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering degree program. Such was the commitment to this curriculum that Penn State Great Valley decided to gracefully phase out all of the more traditional engineering master's degrees in favor of the new graduate program.
