A 95 percent efficient parallel inverter-dcconverter of 500 Watt was devised with the use of transistor switches in the form of a full bridge configuration. This converter is capable of performing, concurrently, the functions^of scaling and stabilization of dc voltage in one single operation at an internal frequency of 20 kHz. The performance of this converter is ascribed to (1) the avoidance of significant parasitic effects in the power transformer which contains a saturable magnetic core and (2) a method of unequivocal sequential operation of the power transistors. The philosophy of the applied approach is derived from the problem areas of the state of the art. Test results of a laboratory breadboard are presented and evaluated.
