A fully object-oriented approach to a general-purposeobject-recognition system is presented. This, together with a blackboardarchitecture, provides a flexible and easily maintainable system. Theknowledge information is distributed into two object-oriented databases:one, hierarchically structures into three layers according to visualabstractions, contains the object models (the knowledge source of therecognition process); the other, which reflects in the most natural waythe problem domain knowledge, helps in the pruning of the decision treesand allows for the analysis of the behavior of the objects
