This paper intends to assess multilevel modulation techniques for a five-level type G NPC based inverter in the pursuit of both a high efficiency converter operation and high standards of its output voltage and current. In this case it is performed an study through a comparative analysis of different concepts of multilevel pulse width modulators which consist of the classical Phase Disposition Modulator and the Selective Harmonic Elimination strategy. In first case, a brief discussion of a more adequate implementation of this traditional technique it is presented. Then the concepts involving the design of Selective Harmonic Elimination is developed in the text along with other modulator and converter issues. By means of the simulation tests the analysis of modulator performance will be established. The results support all the discussion above.
