Over recent years the use of simulation has a growing demand for industrial applications. Globalization has increased competitiveness and companies are finding ways to improve the quality of their products, managing better the project implementation time, optimizing resources, among others. In this context, there is a demand for tools that can improve the processes and alternative method to simulate control in a simple and reliable way. Nevertheless, the available tools on the market are still difficult in measuring the impacts caused by problems related to the ways of transmission such as time-varying communication delays, slow and non-periodic updates, among other types of interference that cause difficulty to the performance of industrial controllers in process control. Another difficulty is finding ways to simulate functions of transfer that provide the scenarios analysis proximate to those found in the industry in application process networked control systems. Therefore, in this work it is intended to develop an embedded functional block regardless of technology, which allows simulate industrial processes of different characteristics considering the network communication delays involved. In order to validate this objective, the embedded Modbus protocol and a PID controller experimental results are presented. A comparison and evaluation of PID control in different simulation environments for application under sampling conditions and variable communications delays were performed. The results are analyzed from the point of view of control performance.
