Soil Properties of the Coal Mine Subsidence Area in Tangshan City, China

With the continuous deterioration of eco-environment, restoration and rehabilitation of waste land and degraded ecosystem have become an increasing important theme in the study of land-use. To investigate the ecosystem damage and environment pollution resulted from coal resources exploitation, soil characteristics of different land types in Tangshan southern subsidence area were studied. Surface soils were collected from seven landscape types: cultivated land, forest land, green space for sports, Nanhu Park, refused dump, fly ash and coal gangue.and waste land. The analysis of soil physical and chemical properties under different land-use types showed that the soil hasn't been contaminated by Zn, Cu, Pb and Cd. The soil fertility and nutrient preserving capability of restored lands were higher than unrestored lands, except for golf course. The analysis of soil characteristics laid a foundation for the rehabilitation works.
