In the present era, low observability is one of the critical requirements in the strategic sector. Radar absorbing materials and structures (RAM/RAS) have been used for passive radar cross section (RCS) reduction. In this paper, the random phase cancellation technique is employed to achieve low RCS thin planar RAS. A 8 × 8 metallic patch array is designed by rotating them either sequentially or randomly. Results are shown for three configurations, viz. no rotation (NR), sequentially rotated (SR) and randomly rotated (RR) RAS. It is shown that the RCS of a RR-based RAS is reduced significantly for -90° ≤ θ ≤ 90°.
