Transport delay based Phase Locked Loop (TD-PLL) algorithm has gained wide acceptance for interconnecting a single phase grid connected inverters (GCIs) with the utility grid owing to its straightforward implementation. This paper proposes a new design procedure to obtain the value of loop filter parameter of TD-PLL using time domain Performance Index Optimization based on non-linear optimization technique. The proposed tuning method was evaluated with established tuning methodologies under different grid disturbances. Numerical simulation results using MATLAB/ Simulink shows that the proposed tuning method provides an optimum parameter value and enable a better dynamic response without significant overshoot and steady state error in TD-PLL response.
