The increasing penetration of wind energy in power systems increases the need for specific dynamic models for this technology to perform stability studies. A dynamic equivalent for wind generation, called SWGREE, has recently been introduced for transient stability analysis. In this paper, its validity for small-signal stability analysis is investigated both from a theoretical point of view and by modal analysis and nonlinear dynamic simulations on an actual large-scale model of the European power system. The limitations of this model are put into evidence along with the ways in which the model has to be enriched for the purposes mentioned above.
