In this paper, a typical medium voltage distribution network model is established by using PSCAD. The differences of the fifth harmonic current fault components on both sides before and after the fault are analyzed, and the fault location method based on the fifth harmonic current fault component is proposed. The principle of the method is simple and easy to understand, less data required, which is good for hardware implementation.
