The IEEE 802.11ba Task Group is currently developing a standard for wake-up radios (WUR), intended to significantly reduce the total power consumption. In this paper, we study means to multiplex the signal intended for the WUR in the frequency domain with data transmitted according to the 802.11ax standard. Due to the different properties of the two signals, some care must be taken to ensure the inter-standard interference is kept sufficiently low. Two approaches to achieve this are proposed and evaluated. In the first, coexistence between the systems is ensured by using a guard interval, and in the second approach the signal used for the WUR is designed to be orthogonal to the 802.11ax signal. The latter is shown to give almost ideal performance for multiplexing the signals and could in principle be adopted without any need for a guard interval.
