The general flow pattern within the mould was subdivided downstream from the SEN outlet to meniscus in four regions. The interaction between the flow conditions in these regions and the meniscus fluctuation was analyzed comparing the FFT spectra. It was concluded that three frequency ranges low (between 0,02 Hz and 0,7 Hz), middle (between 0,7 Hz and 1,4 Hz) and high (higher than 1,6 Hz) exist at the meniscus. These frequency ranges correspond also with the measurements using NKK sensors during the continuous casting of steel. The lowest frequency was measured both at the meniscus and in all regions downstream from the SEN outlet. Whereas the high frequencies (> 2Hz) were not detected at the meniscus although they were measured within the water volume. It was found out that the mould width has an effect on the middle frequency range. This range falls to lower values by increasing mould width. Other influences of the operational parameter on the frequency of meniscus fluctuation were not detected. Hence it can be derived that the meniscus fluctuation with longer periodicity are generated by outflow condition present at the SEN.
