Organizational Sustainable Growth Strategies: Ambidexterity And Consequent Cost-Knowledge Dual Management

With the pace of economic globalization accelerating and knowledge economy coming up, in the process of this shifting transition, most survival companies are generally adept to developing their current offerings and core competencies, so they tend to focus more on known or salient resources and capabilities to protect their comparative advantages in existing businesses. Unfortunately, these managerial patterns approach to core rigidities and hamper companies’ further growth when it comes to pioneering radically new technologies or demands. Ambidexterity is paying a vital role in companies’ successes in confronting with the paradoxical challenge of ‘dualism’, which is functioning efficiently today while innovating effectively for tomorrow in the hyper-competitive world. But the evidences suggest that many companies have struggled to implement it behind which is that there are always some various trade-offs to be difficultly satisfied. In recognition of these challenges, this paper reinterprets the concepts of cost and knowledge managerial patterns respectively, and develops the concept of Cost-Knowledge Dual Management (CKDM) as a organic managerial patterns to weave cost and knowledge into the fabric of an organizational strategy. CKDM is a dynamic managerial frame that is a guidance to identify, explore, and integrate organizational ambidexterity from the systemic perspective in order to reconcile current survival with future growth by the series of complementary managerial principles concluded by Chinese companies’ empirical studies.
