We developed a simulation program for analyzing carrier particle behavior on the magnetic roll in an electrophotographic developer unit. Our program combines two techniques: motion analysis of granular material using the distinct element method, and magnetic field analysis using the boundary element method. The latter technique significantly reduced the calculation load for magnetic field analysis and allowed us to accurately calculate the magnetic flux density distribution on carrier particle surfaces and assess the renewal of the magnetic field based on the carrier particle configuration. This program enabled us to successfully simulate the formation of magnetic brush with 336 carrier particles and ascertain their behavior in response to a magnetic brush.
