A New Thermal-Dye-Bleach Antihalation System for Photothermographic Materials

We have developed a new thermal-dye-bleach system comprising a specific cyanine dye and a thermal base precursor to achieve rapid bleaching during thermal processing, sufficient shelf life, and no color reversion after processing. The cyanine dye has an active methylene group on such a position that facilitates irreversible intramolecular cyclizaton of the conjugate base to form a colorless compound. We could make this thermal-dye-bleach system practicable as an antihalation layer for photothermographic materials.
