From May in 2009 to April in 2010, the worst drought in 80 years appeared in Guizhou province. In order to find water, audio frequency electric method was used for low cost, high efficiency and more suitable for mountain water detection. By analysis of hydrogeology generalization, the main types of groundwater were found out to be carbonate karsts water and bedrock fissure water. Looking for water structure and enrichment of karts water were the main purpose of the work. On the basis of method principle and work plan of audio frequency earth electric field method, accurate data for data interpretation and outcome analysis were captured. The result of data interpretation is structure broken belts presented low value abnormal reflection and the electric conductivity underground was better. This paper takes water detection situation in Shuipa village in Suirao County in Libe County in Guizhou province as an example. The application of audio frequency electrotelluric is used widely in Guizhou karts mountain area. Except for the characteristics of high accuracy interpretation and easily congeniality, the equipments are deft and are convenient for carrying out work in bed rock mountain area, in higher altitude and mountainous terrain with big topographic relief especially. Audio frequency electrotelluric has practical sense for resolving subsurface water resource problems in mountain area and hilly country with severe water deficiency.
