The spatial variability of a heavy mineral sands deposit in Western Australia reveals significant anisotropy, reflecting the mode of formation on a reli beach. Semivariograms very much more slowly in the N-S direction, the line of the beach, than across it. The range of the spherical semivariogram N-S is about six times that in the E-W direction for both depth and accumulation variables. Block estimates, using centred blocks and a sampling grid 200 ft E-W x 1000 ft N-S, give a coefficient of variation of 22 percent and 34 percent respectively.
