During an evaluation of the selective withdrawal structure for a municipal and industrial (M&I)rnwater intake at Folsom Dam, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers SELECT model was used torncompute the near- field velocity profiles in a thermally stratified reservoir. To verify numericalrnmodel results, velocity profiles near the M&I intake structure were collected for one flowrate atrnthree different distances from the trashrack structure. In addition, two velocity profiles wererncollected near the adjacent penstock intake structure for a single flowrate. This paper presentsrnthe measurement techniques used to collect the velocity profiles near trashrack structures usingrnan acoustic Doppler velocimeter. In addition, a comparison between the SELECT-computed andrnfield-measured velocity profiles are made.
